Jharkhand is located in the Eastern part of the country. The capital of the state is Ranchi which is an industrial city. Earlier the state was part of Bihar and declared a state after 15th November 2000. Jharkhand is also called as Vananchal meaning wooded area. As the name implies, Jharkhand is a region which is constituted of a number of forests. The soil in the region is fertile and is rich in minerals. Because of the forests, the climate of the state remains cool in most of the areas especially Ranchi and Gumla. The state also has National Parks and Zoological gardens. Though Hindi is the official language of the state, a number of other languages like Nagpuri, Urdu, Oriya and Bengali are spoken within the state.
